Since conflict is inevitable and emotions are a natural part of life, Dr. Lichtman helps people find ways to manage their conflicts in the most constructive and healthy way possible, especially during transitions when emotions run high, such as when consulting to family businesses or during a divorce. Dr. Lichtman has extensive training and experience in conflict resolution and has taught psychodynamically-oriented consulting to other psychotherapists and psychoanalysts-in-training.
Family Business
Prior to embarking on a medical career, Dr. Lichtman worked in his family’s insurance brokerage firm and understands that transitions during succession planning, estate planning, strategic planning, and changes in leadership, often lead to significant tension and conflict. In addition, with his background in psychology, organizational dynamics, mediation and facilitation, finance, and risk management, Dr. Lichtman helps resolve conflicts and foster collaborative and effective business functioning, especially when the next generation is preparing to take over the business. He holds a Certificate in Family Business Advising from the Family Firm Institute and has spoken at the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council and at the Center City Proprietors Association.
Divorce
Since divorce is one of life’s most emotionally challenging transitions, Dr. Lichtman also offers divorce and co-parenting coaching; this is often in the context of psychotherapy, with a particular focus on improving the long-term well-being of the children of divorce. He has been trained in Divorce and Custody Mediation, Interdisciplinary Collaborative Family Law, and as a Parenting Coordinator.
Dr. Lichtman is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and the Collaborative Law Professionals of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
